Psychosynthesis Coaching SuperVision

Psychosynthesis Coaching Supervision

What is it?

Psychosynthesis coaching supervision is a highly specialized form of SuperVision that integrates the principles and techniques of psychosynthesis into the coaching context. Developed by Italian psychiatrist Roberto Assagioli M.D. in the early 20th century and generally considered the forerunner of Positive Psychology, Psychosynthesis is a holistic approach to personal and spiritual development. In coaching supervision, the Psychosynthesis framework adds a depth and richness to the reflective and developmental aspects of coaching.

  • Psychosynthesis views individuals as multi-faceted beings with physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions. In Psychosynthesis Coaching SuperVision (PCS), this holistic perspective encourages coaches to explore all aspects of the client's experience and their own responses as coaches.

  • A central tenet of Psychosynthesis is the process of self-discovery and self-integration, toward Self-realisation. During PCS, coaches are guided to explore their own inner landscape, understanding how their beliefs, values, and personal experiences may influence their coaching interactions.

  • Psychosynthesis introduces the concept of subpersonalities, which are different aspects of the personal self that may emerge in various situations. In PCS, coaches explore the subpersonalities that may come into play during coaching sessions, gaining insight into their multidimensional inner dynamics.

  • The Psychosynthesis model emphasizes the development of the will and the exploration of one's life purpose. Durinf PCS, coaches delve into questions related to their coaching purpose, values, and the impact of their coaching interventions on clients' journeys toward fulfilling their own life purposes.

  • Psychosynthesis utilizes imagery and visualization techniques, among many others, as tools for self-exploration and personal growth. In PCS, coaches may use these techniques to gain deeper insights into their coaching experiences or to support clients in creating meaningful visions for their futures.

  • Psychosynthesis recognizes a transpersonal dimension of the psyche; a connection to something greater than the individual self. During PCS coaches explore how spirituality and transpersonal experiences may be present in coaching interactions, respecting the diverse belief systems of both coach and client.

It all begins within an inner, wider, systemic landscape

As a Master Level expert in Supervision, Applied Ecopsychology, Psychosynthesis, Vedic Wisdom and Emotional Literacy (among others), I imagine coaching supervision as a well-tended garden. The seeds planted in the soil represent the core values of coaching. The gardener, like the coach supervisor, takes care of the garden, ensuring a healthy environment.

Different plants symbolize diverse coaching approaches, making the garden rich and varied. The sunlight represents the supervisor's guidance, nurturing both the coach and the coachee.

Beneath the soil, roots interconnect everything, representing a shared understanding of systemic dynamics. As the garden evolves, it reflects the ongoing growth and positive changes in the coaching relationship. Just like a garden, coaching needs attention and a holistic perspective to thrive.
